THANK YOUWe would like to offer a huge thank you to Allison Girvan for her work and her wisdom shared in her role of Community Dance Connector on the territories of Sinixt Nation and the Yaqan Nukiy (Ktunaxa) / Nelson BC.Now with some time freed up, Allison plans to spend more time on her own creative projects:“I am currently continuing my work on the sound installation, "Witness: Roots, Bark & Branches" that explores the universal questions of identity and belonging through diaspora co-creativity. My recent connection with Isaac Gasangwa through DWN is especially significant in that it represents the most recent thread in an extended community web-weaving through artistic expression. At a time of increasing ideological division and our ongoing collective experience of climate emergency, these filaments of relationship building are particularly encouraging, hope filled and necessary and I am beyond grateful for the support from Dance West Network.”- Allison Girvan

A new collaboration, Burnaby Arts Gallery
A Studio Provoked: A Dancer’s Response
Sunday, November 3, 2024, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Participating artists chosen by BAG Selection Committee: On Nov 3rd, join us for a unique performance where dancers interact with works in the exhibition and the historic setting of the Burnaby Art Gallery. The chosen choreographers will each respond to the artwork and the gallery's history. After the performance, guests are invited to a reception from 1:30-2:30 pm. Drop-in, free, no pre-registration required.This event is a collaboration between Dance West Network and the Burnaby Art Gallery.

Re-Centering Margins Residency, Gulf Island Tour July 4th-6th 2024Salt Spring Island & VictoriaThe Re-Centering Margins Residency Artists toured Antler Ridge Studio on Salt Spring Island and Dance Victoria, presenting studio showings of their works!On Salt Spring they had the pleasure of meeting writer and filmmaker Carrie Anne Fleming, who wrote an essay reflecting on her experience witnessing the artist’s works - available here.In Victoria they were able to tour the Dance Victoria facilities and learn more about their programming for future opportunities.
