BLUSCRN
FakeKnot
Project Description
BLUSCRN is a multimedia dance work exploring contemporary advertising in relation to the body. Using a full blue morphsuit, a blue environment filled with blue objects, and chroma key software, the performance is live-captured, manipulated, and composited onto monitors, from which other worlds, environments, and desires emerge. An exploration of flat media and hyper marketing, BLUSCRN takes inspiration from popular culture: music videos, magazines, commercials, fashion, and cinema. Conceptually grounded as an investigation into how the body has become warped and exploited in contemporary marketing practices, the piece is simultaneously an attempt to understand how the North American body politic has shifted in the last twenty years. The use of blue paint, a blue morphsuit, a blue backdrop and our chromakey application via Isadora together constitute a highly layered and flexible treatment of dance and body in two dimensions.
