QUOTES FROM PREVIOUS DADAO ARTISTS
"Participating in the DADAO professional development series hosted by Dance West Network has been such a wonderful experience for me, especially as a new artist in Vancouver. The program offered a warm and thoughtful introduction to the arts community here, helping me better understand the cultural, social, and structural contexts that shape the environment of my new city. The practical workshops and resource-sharing sessions really supported my growth as a dance artist and gave me tools that feel relevant and useful as I build a support system around my work. One of the most meaningful parts of the program was being paired with a mentor, whose generous insights helped shape my project and offered a deeper understanding of what it means to navigate this field as a woman of colour artist in Canada. I'm grateful for the space DADAO created for learning, reflection, and connection." - Palak Dhiman, DADAO 2024-25 Artist
“Dance West Network's DADAO program provided a generous container for both myself and my collaborator, Ileanna to continue dreaming new possibilities for where and how our interactive installation "Rock Garden" could continue to grow and exist. Especially as Ileanna and I were working across the distance of two cities, the program provided a structure that kept us on track with building our work, while also remaining flexible enough to meet our individual needs. Receiving mentorship was a huge support that allowed us to see our work from new angles as we continued to translate the work into new mediums and spaces. As well, the micro outdoor residency allowed for important and necessary reflection on what it means to create and present work on Indigenous territories. DADAO helped plant many seeds that have continued to grow since my participation in the program, not only for Rock Garden, but also for my creative practice as a whole.” - Sarah Wong, 2022-23 DADAO artist
