Again

This band of exhausted, raging, trauma-informed lunatics marry humor and tragedy to challenge that in a society driven by success, failure makes us stronger.

Amok Project

The Amok Project is a dance and arts organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia that creates innovation and dialogue in the arts. We act through the medium of dance while focusing on cross-disciplinary practices that empower our community of artists. Details of Again:

Year of creation: 2023

Choreographer: Carol Mendes and collaborators

Key collaborators:

Performers and Co-creators:
Carol Mendes, Ysadora Dias, Juan Duarte, Jaqueline Ritter,
Emily Waller, and Eirini Smith
Sound design and music: (In progress) Evan Berndt
Costumes by the Amok artists with adjustments by Robyn McMahon
Words: Inspired by Guerrila Girls manifesto (1988)

Audience Type: Families, Young adults, Adults, and Seniors

Length of work: In progress/ flexible. 15minutes section to full length option (55minutes) available.

Preparation time required on site: at least one 3 hr tech rehearsal to adapt work to a specific site.

Technical requirements required on-site: The artists own all garments and the oversized paper roll used in the show.
Presenter must provide one simple wooden chair to be used as a stage prop. No other set materials are needed.
Lighting - AGAIN has not premiered for the public yet. So the lighting creation is still in progress and it will depend on the venue. We are flexible to present this work in a bare venue, with minimal production requirements. We
also can adapt to the festival’s lighting plot.
Sound
Audio Playback QLab (SM provides
Macbook with QLab) patched into system.
We also need Audio amplification in the
booth for director voiceover during
performance (depending on size of house/
venue it could be acoustic). Stage manager
will run QLab during the show (minimal cues
and all info will be provided in advance).
Holding spaces
One secure dressing room with mirror, lights
and electric outlet, with access to private
washroom wi t h hot water ( shower
preferable). Hand towels and fresh drinking
water would be appreciated. The performers
require access to the dressing room at least
1 hour prior to house opening for make-up
and costume. Dancers need a holding space
where they can move. If a warm up space is
not available we need alotted time (1 hour)
on stage to properly warm up and prepare
for the show.

Space required: AGAIN is highly adaptable to a variety of venues, including black box, proscenium, and unconventional spaces. We would love to subvert audience sitting patterns. In all cases, intimate venues are preferable (< 150 seats). The minimum performance space is 24’ deep x 36’ wide;

Availability: This work is my biggest project to date and touring it depends on being able to secure funding. We are still in the stages of securing logistics, but if we can gather attention of presenters and/other support it will help making touring feasible.
