UZUMAKI

Three performers try to walk straight and find themselves walking in a continuous spiral shape. The spiral forces them to merge together into one being. They fight this urge through several means but ultimately they fall in love with the spiral and spend the rest of their life running in a circle.

Details:

Year of creation: 2023

Choreographer: Perelandra Waddle

Key collaborators:
I choreographed, created the music/sound costumed and develloped the lighting choices on my own.

The original performers were Athena Chan, Czarina, Augustines, and Maximus McLarnon but any three of our current company members could play these roles.

Audience Type: Youth (Gr. 8-12), Young Adults, Adults

Length of work: 15 minutes

Preparation time required on site: 0 excluding optional lighting and projection

Technical requirements required on-site: We originally presented this work with rear projection and unique red lighting as is outlined in our tech rider. This is optional. If we were to present outdoors, we could present without lighting our projection. It can be performed with proscenium seating or in the round.

Space required: 35'-35' and any floor will work so long as it is clean.

Availability: We would love to tour this work. While we have our first big production in early December (Dec.5-7th), any time after this we can be made available to tour this show anywhere.

Community Engagement

I have always wanted to perform this work in a space with a prayer labyrinth so that audiences could try walking the spiral after the show. We could create a labyrinth on the ground with chalk in the performance venue for the audience to attempt.
