Daniel Bhattacharya
As a musician, Daniel has performed in most of the major Concert halls of the world, such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Royal Albert Hall ( London), Musikverein(Vienna), Berlin Philharmonic Grand Hall(Berlin), and Queen Elizabeth Hall (London). Recent solo performances have taken him to Spain, Canada, the USA, France and India. He has made broadcasts for BBC radio, Canada and Russian radio and TV. He has directed various ensembles from the violin, performing a wide range of concertos. In 2019, his performance of “ Ite Fortes” by Emily Howard for Solo Violin and the BBC singers was broadcast live by BBC Radio 3. He has also held principal positions in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, along with being Co-leader of the original Phantom of the Opera production in London, Uk. Daniel has also worked with many ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, London Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, Scottish Ensemble, Philharmonia and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Daniel has worked on hundreds of soundtracks, including films such as Lord of the Rings, Black Panther, Dunkirk and Guardians of the Galaxy. Working regularly with composers such as Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Max Richter and Alan Silvestri. In addition, Daniel has recorded Albums with Steve Wonder, Liam Gallagher, Josh Groban, Miley Cyrus, Eric Clapton, Diana Kroll, and Michael Buble, to name a few.
Daniel studied as a scholar at the Purcell School of Music, Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music (Canada). His violin teachers have included Yossi Zivoni, Yfrah Neaman and Lorand Fenyves. He studied chamber music with Leon Fleisher, Jamie Laredo and Nick Roth.
As an educator, Daniel has taught and coached at Somerville and New College Oxford University, the Royal College of Music ( London), and was Head of Strings at Stowe School ( Buckingham, UK), in addition to being involved in many educational projects around the world in places such as Sri–Lanka, Ghana and India. Often these have been in conjunction with the British Council.
Daniel has been on the board of various arts organizations in the Uk and Canada and was co-founder and artistic director of the Southdowns Summer Music International Festival in Sussex, UK. The Festival regularly features musicians such as Dame Felicity Lott, Melvin Tan, and Karine Georgian, with curated poetry events featuring Sir Andrew Motion, Prunella Scales and Timothy West.
Daniel’s other passion is film. After completing a cinematography degree, he directed a feature documentary, “Le Chemin des Juifs” relating the story of a Canadian Holocaust Survivor. Released in 2019 on Amazon, the film has received critical acclaim. The film has been presented throughout Canada and the UK with screenings at Ottawa University, Canadian War Museum, Music and Beyond Festival Ottawa, and was screened in Toronto as part of Holocaust education week. Other short films have been featured in various film festivals and screened at the British Film Institute, London.
