FUSION

Fusion is a collaboration of Dance and Music. Cree Hoop-dancer Jessica McMann will premiere an original dance work composed and performed by Tunde Jegede, an internationally renowned Kora and African Classical composer. This combination of Indigenous dance and contemporary African Classical music is unique.
Jessica McMann and Tunde Jegede will also lead workshops with High School students. These workshops will explain and inform about this unique project and lead to a student lead performance at the end of the workshop.

Fusion is a unique melding of artistic genres. The collaboration of world-renowned composer and Kora Virtuoso Tunde Jegede, Cree hoop-dancer and musician Jessica McMann and international classical violinist Daniel Bhattacharya combine for a unique partnership of music and dance. Jessica McMann is a Cree, multi-disciplinary artist. She interweaves land, Indigenous identity, history, and language throughout her dance and music creation/performance practice. A classically trained flutist, she holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary and an MFA in Contemporary Arts from Simon Fraser University. Her work combines traditional language and dance with her contemporary experiences as an Indigenous woman and Two-Spirit person.

World-renowned composer, producer, cellist and kora virtuoso Tunde Jegede brings a new vision to contemporary African and Western classical music. A renaissance man of the harp-lute with over twenty years of experience, his work is a unique synthesis of classical, jazz and traditional music and embodies the legacy of the idiom; African Classical Music.
As a violinist, Daniel has performed in most of the major Concert halls of the world, such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Royal Albert Hall ( London), Musikverein(Vienna), Berlin Philharmonic Grand Hall( Berlin), and Queen Elizabeth Hall (London). Recent solo performances have taken him to Spain, Canada, the USA, France and India. He has made broadcasts for BBC radio, Canada and Russian radio and TV. He has directed various ensembles from the violin, performing a wide range of concertos and recorded hundreds of Hollywood soundtracks principally at Abbey Rd Studios, London, UK.

Community Engagement

Workshops: 60 minutes of performance and projections detailing the history of African Giriot Tradition/ African Classical music aligned with Cree Hoop Dancing and culture. $ 3500 if combined with a performance.

School and Community workshops: 2/ 60 minutes sessions working with community musicians of any age that result in a performance of a work by Tunde Jegede/Jessica McMann and Daniel Bhattacharya.
