HAKO

OURO Collective

Project Description

In this innovative and exciting new work, OURO Collective and Tangible Interaction collaborate to create a multidisciplinary dance experience. The show aims to engage the public and to break down the separation between performers and audience by creating an interactive and playful environment. HAKO will, equally and simultaneously, highlight movement vocabulary and the interactive installations, working to seamlessly bring both art forms together. The show challenges our relationship to technology and brings back the lost sense of play and curiosity.

Company Profile

OURO is an eclectic, Vancouver-based dance collective that uses hip-hop, waacking, breaking, popping, and contemporary dance as the foundation for the creation and production of new work. As individual artists coming from diverse cultural and dance backgrounds, OURO sees collaboration as a catalyst for dialogue, creative innovation, and community building. United around the common goal of pushing the boundaries of how street dance-based works are created and presented, OURO is dedicated to creating performances that explore the full range of possibilities and identities the group represents.

Community Engagement

We can provide the community with either professional or recreational classes that encompass all the styles we work with (breaking, hip-hop, waacking and contemporary). We can teach each style separately but can also offer classes that focus on our own unique movement hybrid of these styles and share our approach/process to collaborative choreography. We can create short works, help the community create a battle/jam, do site specific performances and also provide lectures/discussions. We are open to all communities and have experience teaching ages six and up. We can offer workshops before and after show days.
