Jhoely Triana: Artist Profile
Jhoely Triana is a Colombian-born flamenco dancer and choreographer based in Vancouver. With a diverse dance background, Jhoely trained at the Goh Ballet Academy, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance from Simon Fraser University, and honed her flamenco skills at Al Mozaico Flamenco and Flamenco Rosario. Her work has been showcased at renowned events such as the Victoria Flamenco Festival, Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, Vines Festival, New Works Dance, and the Vancouver Fringe Festival, among others. Jhoely's choreography has also been featured at venues including The Dance Centre, Evergreen Cultural Centre, Knox Performance Centre, and during BC Culture Days.
After spending three months training in Spain, Jhoely returns with a renewed sense of passion and authenticity in her art. Her performances are marked by a deep connection to the audience, where vulnerability and emotional authenticity take center stage, creating an immersive and resonant experience.
Árboles (Trees)
Arboles (Trees) invites audiences to gather amongst the trees and listen— to the rhythm of the earth, the language of movement, and the stories that root us together. Set outdoors and surrounded by nature, this 30- minute solo work by choreographer Jhoely Triana blends live flamenco dance, song, and guitar in an intimate exploration of resilience, renewal, and shared humanity. Through grounded footwork and the playful unfurling of her signature Bata de Cola skirt, Triana channels the strength, grace, and endurance of the forest. Reaching, pushing, and gathering, she mirrors the living dialogue between dancer, musician, and environment. Performed under open sky, Arboles (Trees) becomes a living conversation with the land—inviting reflection on our interconnectedness and planting seeds of empathy, compassion, and renewal.
