Jhoely Triana, born in Colombia, is a Vancouver based flamenco dancer and choreographer. Jhoely trained at the Goh Ballet Academy, completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance at Simon Fraser University, and at Al Mozaico Flamenco Academy. Since 2016, she has performed at the Victoria Flamenco Festival, Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, the Dance Centre's 12 Min Max and Open Stage, Vines Festival, New Works Summer Series, the Kitsilano Showboat and various community events and showcases. Jhoely's work emphasizes connection to audience through authenticity of emotion and vulnerability.

Jhoely Triana, née en Colombie, est une danseuse et chorégraphe de flamenco basée à Vancouver. Jhoely a été formée à la Goh Ballet Academy, a obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts en danse contemporaine à l'Université Simon Fraser et à l'Al Mozaico Flamenco Academy. Depuis 2016, elle s'est produite au Victoria Flamenco Festival, au Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, au Dance Centre's 12 Min Max and Open Stage, au Vines Festival, à la New Works Summer Series, au Kitsilano Showboat, à divers événements communautaires et vitrines. Arboles (Trees) is an outdoor, site-responsive work featuring flamenco dance and music in a contemporary urban setting to express current themes such as changing times, perseverance and finding hope. The work uses the metaphor of trees to represent how we must honour our roots and gather strength from our past to reach new heights so that we can share our lived experiences with our community and spread the seeds of empathy and compassion.

Arboles (Arbres) est une œuvre in situ, adaptée au lieu de performance, qui fait appel à la danse et à la musique flamenca dans un cadre urbain contemporain pour exprimer des thèmes d'actualité tels que le changement, la persévérance et l'espoir. L'œuvre utilise la métaphore des arbres pour représenter la façon dont nous devons honorer nos racines et rassembler la force de notre passé pour atteindre de nouveaux sommets afin de pouvoir partager nos expériences vécues avec notre communauté et répandre les graines de l'empathie et de la compassion.

Space required: Approx 10 feet by 10 feet flat space. Ideally close trees, tree trunks or wooden structures to better incorporate the metaphor of trees into the piece.
Preparation required: Set up: 2 hours for staging and technical set up/sound check of guitarist and singer.
Take down: 30 mins
Minimal on-site technical requirements: Low Tech Requirements
Looking to explore different wooden dance surfaces such as boardwalks, docks, tree stumps and outdoor stages. Will provide a portable dance board.

1 monitor for musicians to hear themselves
