Justin Calvadores

Justin Calvadores (they/them) is a freelance contemporary dance artist based in so called “Vancouver” BC, the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. They grew up on Treaty No. 1 territory, so called “Winnipeg”, MB. At the age of 16 where they were introduced to dance through a Filipino led hip hop dance community. Justin completed two years of training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and is a graduate of the Arts Umbrella contemporary dance program. Justin has danced with Ballet BC as an emerging artist under the direction of Emily Molnar and continued their contemporary dance career with Ballet Edmonton under the leadership of Karissa Berry and Wen Wei Wang. As freelance performer Justin has worked with companies such as Mile Zero Dance, Wen Wei Dance, Inverso Productions, FakeKnot and Jill Henis. They are continuing to create and perform work with creators such as Isak Enquist, Dumb Instrument Dance, Inverso Productions, Heather Myers, Mascall Dance and The Falling Company. Justin’s personal practice is informed by their queerness and identity as Filipinx; they integrate the array of modalities they have been fortunate enough to study. They are grateful for dance as a catalyst that has enriched their perception of the world.
