Black Feather

Through Black Feather, Lamondance seeks to reinvent the possibilities of story-telling. The work is based on power imbalances in today's society. Choreographer Davi Rodrigues was inspired by his home country of Brazil and the struggles that they are experiencing right now. In this work, he examines what happens to people when they are granted power as well as how much power are we offering to others unintentionally. By looking back on old classical works like Swan Lake, Davi recognized that power imbalance and a lack of equality played a large role. He was inspired to take this theme and find relevance in the problems we face today as a society. His overall message is that power can be asserted upon us or it can be granted. The goal is to inspire the audience to leave the theatre feeling more empowered to make their own choices, to take action and make positive changes.
