Conversation in Three
Conversations in Three presents a series of compelling contemporary works, spotlight themes of identity and self-discovery. The series delves into explorations of personal identities while celebrating the impact of rural BC creatives on the stage. Choreographer's Giselle Liu, Cai Glover, and Anya Saugstad, create innovative commentary through their narrative analysis on our individual identities and the ubiquitous experience of being human beings.
Join us for an immersive exploration that not only celebrates diverse perspectives on self-discovery but also pays homage to the profound influence of Northern and rural artists in BC have in shaping the global dance landscape.
These works can be performed together as Conversations in Three, or as individually as part of a mixed bill performance.
BILLING
‘Behind Veiled Eyes’
Created by Giselle Liu (Prince Rupert)
"Behind Veiled Eyes" is an intimate duet exploring the complex connection between two Metis sisters and the theme of healing through matriarchal lineage. This performance uniquely blends spoken and unspoken dialogue, immersing the audience in the intricacies of family relationships.
‘A Matter of Deviance’
Created by Cai Glover (Prince George/ Montreal)
Cai Glover uses his unique choreographic method combining American Sign Language and contemporary movement to create a dynamic new language around stigma and his own poetry. In this work, Cai calls into question notions of stigma and his own identity as a deaf/ hard of hearing dance artist and choreographer.
‘Here it Is’
Created by Anya Saugstad (Bowen Island) in collaboration with dancers (Prince George)
Anya Saugstad creates an intimate journey on the contemplation of our existence as ephemeral individuals on this earth. This work started in Vancouver as a duet but has been adapted and expanded for Method Dance with a four person cast.
“That we are made to die, one at a time, here in the first draft of existence—that is the pain and the longing. That is the beautiful.” (Sheila Heti from the book Pure Colour).
