MAINSTAGE 2026-27
Resonance
I am currently in process of the creation of a new, full length (50-60min) solo work that explores the inter-connected collaboration between my practises as a dance artist, vocalist and musical composer/writer.
I am interested in the creation of both the musical or sonic aspects of the work and the dance aspects being entirely symbiotic in nature. Choreographing the movement and composing the music and sound design in one space and within the same creative flow as much as possible is essential to this process.
I intend to write the musical score for the work, then build the choreography and dance aspect with live vocal and instrumental elements incorporated into the performance. This process will involve reconstructing and reimagining the musical score so it is fully integrated into the choreography both affected and influenced by the movement. I’d like to create an experience for the audience that is both sonically and visually stimulating in which both elements are completely synergistic.
The longterm idea once the show is complete would be to transpose the show’s score into a recorded, listenable version to release as a digital and/or physical album for audiences to take with them after they experience the work.
The working title for the work in progress is ‘Resonance’ which has two references… in a scientific scenario, it refers to sound frequencies resonating with an object’s natural frequency to create movement or vibration. They become tuned into each other. This process is the inspiration for the movement or choreographic elements becoming the physical embodiment of the music and sound frequencies.
In an artistic scenario, resonance refers to the emotional effect that art, movement, sound etc can have on the audience that is experiencing it. This is the intended purpose of the work itself is for the physiological process of resonance to then have an emotional resonance with my audience.
Ideally they can then take a physical record home and continue that experience through the sound waves and frequencies from their record player or sound system and perhaps allow it to generate movement or feeling in their own body.
I can not define myself as a dance artist or a music artist, they coexist within me and therefore it is important they coexist in my work. My inspiration in one art form is directly influenced by the other and it has become my creative pursuit to merge both forms to offer audiences experiences that transcend conventional notions of dance or music performance. In a time when art is increasingly condensed and consumed online I value the rare, visceral connections that live performance offers. I continue to pursue and share both art forms because I wholeheartedly believe these connections to the live spirit are, and will remain, essential to the human experience.

ARTIST BIO
Caroline Fraser, also known as ‘Lady C’ is an award-winning choreographer, performer, recording artist, and one of Canada's leading voices in contemporary street dance. Working at the intersection of street dance, theatre, and original music, she creates immersive performances that transform foundational street dance forms into compelling theatrical experiences.
Grounded in decades of study with pioneers of Popping, Locking, House, and Hip Hop, Lady C has developed a distinctive choreographic language that blends technical precision, musicality, and embodied storytelling. Her work explores the relationship between sound, movement, and perception while challenging conventional understandings of street dance within contemporary performance.
Her achievements include four Dora Mavor Moore Awards, including Outstanding Performance and Outstanding Original Choreography, and recognition as Canadian Dancer of the Year. Internationally respected as both a performer and adjudicator, she has participated in many of the world's leading street dance events, including Juste Debout, JOAT Festival, Summer Dance Forever, and Bust A Move.
Lady C's work has been presented across theatre, film, and television, including Disney, Hulu, Crave, and TVA's Révolution. As a recording artist under the pseudonym CEE, she composes original music that is deeply integrated into her choreographic practice, creating interdisciplinary works where movement and sound evolve together.
Performance History & Upcoming Performances
Some of my past works speak to this exploration and success as a multidisciplinary artist.
In 2024 I created a work called ‘CYMATIX’ which received two 2024 Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding Original Choreography and Outstanding Performance. It was also nominated for a 3rd Dora Award for Outstanding Production. This work was also a solo and was commissioned and supported by Citadel & Compagnie and National Ballet of Canada. I choreographed the work and composed 90% of the music, both pre-recorded and performed live. Since it’s premier at Citadel Theatre in Toronto, the work has now been presented across Canada at FFDN, FODAR, VIDF, Boite Festival and the University of Calgary. I would say this current work is an extension of many of the ideas explored through the creative process of CYMATIX and I am very interested to pursue many of these unexplored ideas.
In 2019 I created a work called ‘Conversation’ which featured a full live band and a cast of Toronto Street Dance artists. The concept was to show the relationship between music and dance and the human to human interconnected exchange of energy. The work was commissioned and presented at the Meridian Arts Centre by Fall For Dance North.
In 2023 I released a full length solo vinyl LP and created a music video to one of the singles. The video consisted of a 360 camera which we did a 6-way split screen and integrated virtual reality technology. I then choreographed and performed 6 different parts for each of the screens, and through editing techniques, they all seemingly interacted and co-existed on screen in the same room at the same time. The viewer was able to use VR technology to experience the video as if they were standing in the room with all 6 of myself dancing and interacting with one another and view any perspective of their choosing at any given time.
The release party for the album also incorporated a dance element. I directed a live performance with a 4 piece band and 5 dance artists from the local Toronto community and reworked the musical material into a more theatrical performance.

General Technical Requirements: Tech requirements will not be fully detailed until the work is complete but the intention is to keep it fairly low tech and low cost to transport and present. It will likely be standard tech regarding lighting design and will involve some live musical instruments and equipment such as multiple microphones.
One specific requirement that will definitely be needed is a strong sound design in the space and experienced sound technician.
Wood or vinyl flooring is preferred over marly flooring as footwear will be required for the dancing.
Required amount of time for tech set up: Unknown at this time
Alternative Venues: marley flooring is always challenging for Street Dance in general so it is not ideal for the work - wood or vinyl is preferred.
Work will be adaptable to large or intimate theatre spaces but will need full standard lighting capabilities.
Sound quality and tech capabilities will be of high priority as well
At this time I have no planned activities of this nature
Outreach Activities
As part of the touring of the work, I will be offering workshops in Street Dance styles such as House, Popping and Locking. These workshops can be presented both internally or open to the public.
Fees would be negotiated based on the individual contract with the presenter or host which can range from a split of profit or a flat fee of $500 per 1.5hr class.
