General Technical Requirements: In-progress Canadian touring configuration: an ideally black-box venue with 20 ft or higher grid, black masking, and in-the-round seating; a 15 ft x 15 ft playing space with fireproof/black floor protection, a six-piece plexiglass hexagonal border, and approximately one cubic yard (about 2,000 lbs) of fine washed play sand; one overhead floor projector (approximately 8,500 lumens) with long HDMI/SDI runs; one centre-grid IR camera with IR lights; Isadora/new-media control and operator table; multichannel sound with six speakers and four subwoofers (four-channel fallback may be discussed); live microphone/sampling system; six lighting booms plus floor and grid fixtures; eight soy-based low-heat candles in a wooden prop; venue-approved fire plan; power, cable, rigging, and sand-handling support.

Required amount of time for tech set up: Estimated 10–12 hours for load-in and setup, including lighting/video hang and focus, audio installation and tuning, and sound check; 2 hours for tech/dress run; approximately 2 hours preset; approximately 8 hours strike. Timing varies with venue configuration and crew.

Alternative Venues: SI(x) is best suited to an indoor black-box theatre with full blackout, a 20 ft or higher grid, black masking, a level floor, and an audience configuration close to or surrounding the central sand-filled hexagon. The core playing area is approximately 15 ft x 15 ft and requires floor protection and adequate load capacity for about 2,000 lbs of sand. Presenters also need sand-containment and cleanup capacity, safe audience and performer egress, overhead projector rigging and throw, multichannel audio, power, technical crew, and venue approval for open flame.

The work is scalable, and the premiere demonstrated that the audience configuration can be adapted. However, each adaptation requires early technical discussion to preserve the work's intimate proximity, responsive projection, spatial and tactile sound, and material relationships. SI(x) is not currently recommended as an outdoor or plug-and-play lobby presentation because daylight, wind, weather, sand containment, projection, sound, and fire approval would substantially affect the work. Venue-specific accessibility and risk planning will be completed during technical advance.
