General Technical Requirements: The work is performed in the round with the audience seated in a circle around the performers. Venue configuration needs to accommodate this circular setup.

Sound: PA system with monitor speakers, DI boxes and microphone inputs for live instruments (guitar, electronic production equipment, percussion). Minimum two monitor mixes for musicians and dancers.

Projection: Video projector and surface or screen appropriate to the venue. Projection wraps around the performance space, so a flat front-facing screen is not ideal. Wall surfaces, scrims, or overhead projection work better. Shika (projection/VJ) can advise on venue-specific solutions.

Lighting: Basic lighting rig with capacity to wash and isolate the circular performance area. No strobe effects. No sudden changes in volume or lighting intensity (the work is designed with neurodiverse audiences in mind).

Floor: Sprung or Marley floor preferred for dancer safety. The work has been adapted for non-traditional and outdoor surfaces (grass, concrete, uneven terrain), so this is a preference, not a requirement.

Power: Sufficient outlets for electronic music equipment, projection equipment, and laptop/sound interface.

Space: Minimum roughly 20' x 20' clear performance area in the centre, with audience seating around the perimeter.

Required amount of time for tech set up: Half day minimum (4-6 hours) for indoor theatre presentations. This includes reconfiguring seating into the round, sound check for three live musicians, projection alignment, and lighting focus. Outdoor or non-traditional venues may require additional setup time depending on the space.

Alternative Venues: The E.N.D. has been performed indoors in black box theatres and outdoors at VINES Art Festival, so the work has a track record of adapting to different environments. The circular format is actually simpler to set up in non-traditional spaces than a proscenium configuration would be. All you need is a clearing.

Floor surface is flexible. The dancers have worked on Marley, hardwood, grass, and concrete. Sprung or Marley floor is preferred when available, but the choreography can adjust. Shoes and footwear change depending on the surface.

Audience and performers are on the same level. There is no raised stage. People sit or stand in a circle around the performance area, which means the work is naturally accessible for wheelchair users and people with mobility aids. No special sightline accommodations are needed since everyone is looking inward at the same plane.

For outdoor presentations, the main considerations are power access for the sound system and electronic instruments, a surface for projection (a building wall, a portable scrim, or environmental features can work), and enough ambient darkness for the projection to read if performing in the evening.

Sound travels differently outdoors, so the PA setup may need to be scaled up depending on the site.
