Us Beneath the Currents is an interactive performance-installation that transforms public space into an imagined underwater world. Inspired by marine ecosystems, climate change, and speculative evolution, the project invites audiences to imagine a future where humans have adapted to life beneath rising waters.
Using real-time body tracking technology, live dancers generate responsive digital projections that evolve and transform as they move. Projected imagery includes hybrid underwater creatures, flowing wave patterns, coral-inspired structures, and abstract visual forms that blur the boundary between human and marine life. Rather than functioning as a fixed animation, the visuals respond directly to performers in real time, creating a living digital ecosystem that changes throughout the evening.
Presented after dark, the work uses light, motion, and projection to activate the nighttime environment. Audience members witness performers transforming the projection surface through movement, creating an immersive experience that encourages curiosity, wonder, and play. Following scheduled performances, visitors are invited to enter the installation space themselves and interact with the projection system, experiencing how their own bodies generate and influence the digital environment.
