Privilege
MascallDance
Project Description
Just when you think you understand, words and music cast new meanings. Mascall and five outstanding performers dive into the elusive relationship between dance and other expressive forms. In the adventurous 70’s, Mascall joined fellow post-modernists in vigorously questioning the relationship of music and movement, building a spectacular note-for-note choreographic confrontation with the crashing magnificence of Beethoven’s later works – so difficult that it was never publicly performed! Mascall probed the interpretation of words and movement, influenced by Samuel Beckett’s elusive, apocalyptic writing: 24 random paragraphs, interpreted in movement. Movement’s play with the interpretation of evocative words brings flickering moods clearer…clearer and clearer… Long after post-modernism’s end, the rise and fall of contemporary dance and well into the present, as yet unnamed, dance revolution of expressionism, story and ethics, Mascall returns to these quests. PRIVILEGE responds with 2020 vision. Two windows into a riveting choreographic perspective gained through years of invention: an outpouring of trademark wit and innovative movement.
