Prominence & Glory
Kirsten Wicklund & Co-Creator Peter Smida
Project Description
A contemporary dance theatre work that uses an original music composition, spoken word and text to highlight two quirky characters. The work explores narrative inside of abstraction. Researching themes of humanity’s animal nature, what it means to be underneath exterior layers that are civilized, self-consuming and powerful. Short Synopsis: Gregory & Priscilla exist. They exist alone whilst together, in a life consisting of routine days and nights, proper social exchanges, and independent self-fury. They are haunted by their own memories, aspirations and hunger for perfection. They strive, one by one, connecting with one another only in their dreams where they tangle, intertwine, and slip by one another unnoticed. Gregory has a colourful past, Priscilla has a determined future. They swing at their fate – continue to miss, and eventually are the demise of one another without mean… buried under their ambitions and regrets. As organic matter their bodies represent impossibility. Are they cursed? Figments of each other’s imagination? Are they only caught up in the hamster wheel of their existence?
Kirsten and Peter are actively seeking continued support for the completion of this creation and would like to move towards building relationships with interested parties including presenters, residency opportunities and technical support etc. They also hope to begin working with a team of collaborators in Lighting Design, Wardrobe, & Production in order to move towards the full realization of the work. Any support to facilitate the continued creation of this work are welcomed. Kirsten and Peter have additional short works that can be presented as parts of a mixed program until Prominence & Glory is at it’s full length.

Outreach Activities
Advance Prep for live performance: Online activities such as streaming short trailers of the works, presenting photo galleries and curated images related to the work will help to create interest and prepare the audience for what they will see. Pairing the performances with workshops available to the local community as well as scheduled artist chats and including livestream elements to these events.
Outreach activities to engage with the dance, art and theatre communities in the form of master classes, film screening, discussions and post-show talk backs with the artists and choreographers. Master Classes in Ballet, Contemporary and Repertoire in two divisions: ages 13 + and 16+. $150/hour per workshop.
Community Engagement
We would be interested in offering open rehearsals to the local dance and arts communities in particular elementary and highschool students. Offering the opportunity for students to see live work and also ask questions to the artists with Q&A sessions to follow.
