Momentum of Isolation MOI

Founded in Vancouver in 2014, Radical System Art (RSA) and Artistic Director Shay Kuebler have been creating and touring works multiple works provincially, nationally and internationally. RSA fuses dance, theatre and martial arts with interactive technology and design to create impactful performances and interdisciplinary projects.

The company is guided by a principle of harnessing opposition to find strength and balance: athleticism with artistry, structure with chaos, technique with instinct.

RSA believes collaboration is critical to reaching wider audiences. By creating with many unique and diverse artists, RSA looks to build work that speaks to more people. By integrating multiple art forms, company performances seek to balance out the presence of visual design, sound design and physical movement.

Artistic Director Shay Kuebler believes the performing arts are a transcendent form of storytelling. By weaving movement, sound and imagery together, we create a universal language that voices what can't be said with words.

Momentum of Isolation - MOI

MOI - MOMENTUM OF ISOLATION bases its scenes and performances around social isolation and loneliness. The overall performance explores the objective and subjective experiences of isolation/loneliness through the individual, the group and modern society - a society with shifting values and an ever-advancing digital life.

To shape a digital world on stage, MOI places interactive video and sound around the performers. These elements enhances ideas on how technology influences our perception and our lives, and that technology can both empower and disempower us.

Further distilling isolation, solo performances and the extended social isolation of one character on stage are critical to the impact of the show. Within MOI, one character's interactions are only with inanimate objects. Through puppeteering and stage-craft, the inanimate world comes to life, which highlights how isolation can disrupt our connection to reality. Our social bonds allow us to understand that we have an impact on what is around - that we exist.

Community Engagement Activities

RSA values integrating and engaging the local community. This has included performances to "open" our performances by local high school and pre-professional dance programs; educational discussions and workshops with public schools; and opportunities for musicians to play for dance workshops and movement classes. We look to alway find greater opportunities to engage the public and different branches of the arts community.

RSA is given organizational and operation support through Belsher Arts Management. With BAM and RSA's 9 year history of touring BC, we look to build a strong dialogue with each community to discover what activities and corresponding compensation/fees are viable and efficacious.
