Robbyn Scott

ROBBYN SCOTT movement artist and facilitator, grandmother, owner of home-based Antler Ridge Dance studio, and co-owner of Salt Spring Coffee, living respectfully on the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples.

I was born in San Francisco and moved to rural Salt Spring Island in 1985 to start a family with my partner. Working in a small community has opened a beautiful space in me for new discoveries and appreciation of how far-reaching dance can be. Dancing has been part of my life since childhood. I began dance training in ballet and after 10 years of training and a knee injury, I evolved into classical modern styles and then discovered postmodern and experimental dance. Iā€™m grateful to have lived in Boston, North Carolina and New York where I worked with a number of companies and toured throughout the eastern and southern US, to Europe and the Caribbean.

Once moving to SSI, I got busy sharing my experiences and love of dance with the community. I taught classes and created dances for myself and community members of all ages. I continued to connect and perform with previous choreographers and worked with dancers and choreographers from Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria. These days, I continue to dance in my home based studio, Antler Ridge Dance studio, sharing, exploring and creating with local dancers, visual artists, musicians and vocalists.

It is an honour to take on this role of Community Dance Connector.
