Michaëla St-Pierre & Julian Beairsto
Yukon Contemporary Training Community (YCTC) is a collective based in the north providing classes for continued professional development in dance. YCTC is led by two local contemporary dancers born and raised in the Yukon, Julian Beairsto and Michaëla St-Pierre.
Together Michaëla and Julian bring a diverse and rich set of experiences from contemporary dance communities around the world. Their understanding of different techniques and styles is diverse and profound. They both have connections to dance communities in Canada and abroad which is helpful for building national and international presenting opportunities. They know the calibre of the artform that needs to be upheld to be competitive within the current scene and happenings of the dance world. They both have developed their own artistic practices in the Yukon and are dedicated to growing the Yukon dance community. By working together, they are in a unique position to build bridges between dance studios and community members to unify and uplift the work of all dance artists working in the Yukon.
In this first 2024 season of summer classes, YCTC hosted 24 classes between June 3rd and August 21st, 2024. 37 different dancers attended YCTC classes throughout the summer, with each class averaging 8 dancers per class. This felt like a very successful first season of YCTC, and Micha and Julian look forward to more momentum and growth in the summers to come. The pair have demonstrated success in bridging their two dance communities and bringing engaging professional dance training to the Yukon.
