Rosanna Terracciano experiments within and around the boundaries of flamenco, dance, contemporary performance and short film, driven by an urgency to expose the vulnerable and introverted aspects of all that surrounds her in art and life. She is flamenco and she is not flamenco. She is a dancer and she is not a dancer. Her creations represent a kind of personal hopeful protest within a genre often marked by emotional intensity and extreme expression — a declaration in support of a more quiet flamenco fighting for its place. Her solo work has been presented throughout Canada and Europe, notably at the Bienal de Flamenco (Seville), Coetani Experimental Flamenco Festival (Athens), Flamenco Empirico (Barcelona) and National Arts Centre online (Ottawa). Significant recent collaborations include creation and production periods in Hamburg (Germany), at the Dusseldorf Flamenco Festival (tanzhaus nrw) and at Barcelona’s house of dance, Mercat de les Flors. She is the 2017 recipient of the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize for dance from the Canada Council for the Arts.
