whip
FakeKnot
Project Description
whip is a 60 minute duet performed blindfolded. Physically the work palys with the variety of touch between bodies such as a “handshake” – to finalize a deal, contract/agreement and also bodies in very vulnerable/ or what some might compare to “sexual” positions- sitting, standing and lifting each other in compromising arrangements. This will be my second full length work created through a highly collaborative process and will be premiered in 2021 at the Queer Games with the support of the MAI in Montreal, Quebec.
Company Profile
FakeKnot is the umbrella entity for inclusive performance works that play with the complexities of identity and culture through costume, sound, technology, and movement. FakeKnot is grounded in street, commercial, and contemporary dance techniques that honours the queer, POC identity of Artistic Director, Ralph Escamillan. All work made within the framework of FakeKnot focuses on highly collaborative processes. Past collaborations include new media artists Sammy Chien and Nancy Lee, sound designer Stefan Seslija, and local brands Lululemon Lab and Five Left Leather. Collaboration as a practice of knowledge co-creation is essential for FakeKnot in the ways it can generate differences and bring differences together.
