YSADORA DIAS
Ysadora Dias
Ysadora Dias (she/ela) is an emerging artist based in so-called Vancouver. Her dance practice is deeply inspired by her Brazilian roots and culture, drawing on these influences to explore ancestral stories and foster connections with others and nature. She is particularly interested in how music and the environment influence movement, often using improvisation to allow these elements to guide her creative process.
Ysadora began her dance journey at Escolas de Danças de Caraguá, where she trained in ballet, contemporary dance, Brazilian cultural dances, and capoeira. She later performed with CBMC Dance Company and the collective Pé na Areia, contributing to the creation and production of various works. Since moving to Vancouver, she has collaborated with many artists and performed with Coastal City Ballet, Amok Project, MascallDance, Co. Erasga, Raven Spirit Dance, and Inverso Productions.
Her explorations seek to craft work that is both deeply emotional and joyfully playful—art that feels ever-changing and alive.
Dance Piece / Performance: Raiz
Description:
Raiz is a piece that intertwines contemporary movement with the rhythmic traditions of Capoeira, live drumming, and singing. This dance solo is rooted in afro-brazilian ancestry, self-discovery, and resilience.
A relationship between sound and body: the dance becomes a voice and the movement shapes the drums into an atmosphere that unfolds through grace and strength, stillness and energy.
Raiz is an opportunity for audiences to experience vulnerability, resilience and the connection between body, spirit, and nature.
