Ancillary Project
Since this residency project's inception in 2019, Dance West Network has developed an Ancillary Project that offers everyone who applies - and are not selected for the residency - with some benefit.
Each year is different, depending on resources, but we are usually able to offer the artists a modest stipend, written documentation, access to some free rehearsal hours, meetings with project consultants, and some funds for the emerging dance artists to connect with a mentor of their choice for creative and/or career guidance.
We offer the resources we have available to everyone who applies as encouragement, as belief in the importance of their work, and to help artists persevere and keep going with their artistic imaginings so that they can share this work at some point with witnesses.
A note from Jane Gabriels, Dance West Network's Executive Director
Re-Centering / Margins 2022-23, Dance West Network’s 4th annual Creative Residency increases opportunities and professional development for Vancouver-based, emerging BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) dance artists to create contemporary works with mentoring support to more fully realize their artistic visions.
This project also supports Dance West Network’s mission by strengthening emerging contemporary dance artists in Vancouver for future engagements locally and provincially.
