Isaac Gasangwa – Izo Dreamchaser: Artist Profile
Isaac Gasangwa, known as Izo Dreamchaser, is a Rwandan-born dancer, choreographer, educator, and ambassador of African cultures, currently based in Vancouver, Canada. Born in 1992, he grew up in the aftermath of the 1994 Tutsi genocide, an event that profoundly shaped his commitment to art and community-building. In Rwanda, where dance wasn't traditionally seen as an "Art," Izo became a pioneer. He founded a national-competition-winning dance group, Jabba Junior; created the country’s first Afro-Hip Hop dance studio; and established the first dance festival in Rwanda. He also started a dance program for underprivileged children that continues to run today. After moving to Vancouver in 2014, Izo trained in hip-hop, martial arts, and gymnastics. Observing a lack of African representation, he founded Afrobeats Van in 2017 to promote African heritage, offer dance classes, and address social issues like racism. Izo’s work, which fuses traditional Rwandese dance with modern street style, operates on the core philosophy to "Dance, Inspire, Educate!". His first full-length production, The African Dream, explores his journey through the post-genocide era, celebrating Black resilience and hope.
This video is a 2023 demo reel showcasing Isaac Gasangwa’s work in stunt, gymnastics, choreography, and acting.
GEOMETRY OF POWER (G.P.)
GEOMETRY OF POWER (G.P.) is a visceral, multi-disciplinary dance-theatre performance premiering December 7, 2025, conceived and choreographed by Isaac Gasangwa (Izo Dreamchaser). This groundbreaking 75-minute work plunges into the enduring legacy of the 1884 Berlin Conference, where European powers arbitrarily carved up the African continent, sowing seeds of conflict and division that persist today. The performance employs an innovative fusion of Traditional African Dance, Contemporary, and Hip-Hop to explore the systematic violence and resultant socio-political scars. Through compelling thematic arcs— from The Oracle’s historical warning and the cold logic of The Briefcase (symbolizing colonial agenda) to the vibrant resilience of The Global Echo —G.P. meticulously connects 19th-century colonial carving to 21st- century global issues of inequality and systemic injustice. Integrating powerful spoken word, projection mapping of historical documents, and an original soundscape, the show amplifies marginalized African narratives. Moving beyond historical critique, G.P. culminates in a powerful and hopeful Call to Action, asserting that the true rhythm of unity and self-determination was never silenced. It is an urgent conversation on how the lines drawn long ago continue to define our world, urging collective action toward a more equitable future.
