Re-Centering/Margins

Dance Residency

Launched in 2019, Re-Centering/Margins Creative Residency is an annual project which aims to

increase opportunities and professional development for emerging IBPOC dance artists to create contemporary works with mentoring support, performance opportunities and documentation.

This residency also features a written component - pls click HERE to access booklets of original essays by IBPOC writers.

This project supports Dance West Network’s mission by strengthening early career contemporary dance artists in Vancouver for future engagements, locally, provincially, and beyond.

Ancillary Project

Since this residency project's inception in 2019, Dance West Network has developed an Ancillary Project that offers everyone who applies - and are not selected for the residency - with some resources.

Each year is different, depending on available funding, but we are usually able to offer the artists a modest stipend, access to some free rehearsal hours, meetings with project consultants, and sometimes funds for to cover written documentation and/or pay a mentor of their choice to work with the artist for creative and career guidance.

We offer available resources to everyone who applies as encouragement, as belief in the importance of their work, and to help artists persevere and keep going with their artistic imaginings to develop their work.
